Meet Ralph

Ralph
Ralph Roister Doister is a giant 12 year old cat we adopted as a kitten from SHAID Tree Shelter in Nova Scotia. He is my constant sewing supervisor. While my husband and I have four other cats, Ralph has always been the most interested in snuggling into my fabric, and my current interest in quilting has delighted him.

I did big prints for the first block and they look cool if anlittlr messy right around the trunks. But for these little trees I think, after some experimentation, that I'm going to go with a very small print/blender. I'm doing the One Two Tree QAL with @sugaridoo whi I'm doing the One Two Tree QAL with @sugaridoo which just started on Thursday and have decided to use up some of the super pretty prints I have somehow accumulated. This is an @artgalleryfabrics print that reads like gorgeous clumps of coral foliage in this context. These nice big blocks (12 x 18) are foundation paper pieced on freezer paper - something new for me. I really enjoyed making this one - love the technique so much more than regular paper piecing! The block is a little messed up (I used background fabric in a tiny place where I should have used tree fabric) but it bothers me less than I thought it would 🙂 Three more to make of this big tree and then we move into the other 3 kinds of trees over the next 6 weeks! #onetwotreeqal #quiltalong #foundationpaperpiecing #novascotiaquilters
