Made a small art quilt for the Lunenburg Art Gallery’s Foot Show next month. Seaglass shapes free motion quilted on sand-coloured cotton and stretched on a 12″ x 12″ frame.
about a year ago i read an article about medieval figure poetry, an abstracted arrangement of letters into shapes that suggest the subject matter. many of them used actual squares. in interpreting this convept as an art quilt i started with four 16 character phrases related to social justice, plus the nine letter words amplified and testimony.
This is the result of my first Stash Bee Quilt Block exchange, a year-long quilting project that brings together 11 people from across North America. Each of us was assigned a month, during which we were Queen Bee — we gave instructions for a block, up to 16.5″ square, that each of the others would make for us. On the […]
Steph and I have worked together for years in opera and theatre, and I’m thrilled to work with them on this art quilt, Haven.
I was part of the Third Block Swap on Reddit recently, and just finished one of two polaroid quilts! This one is for my granddaughter. Participants in the swap were organized in groups of 12, and we each made 48 basic Polaroid blocks, fussy cutting novelty prints into the subjects of the photos and then framing them with white. Finally done! Front of quilt adapted from Simple Simon’s Peaches and Cream quilt pattern. I sized everything up to make 12″ blocks and added a strip of coins at the top to fix the aspect ratio and give me a nice Queen sized quilt for the happy couple. The bride picked this pattern and the basic fabric and colour way. […]

I played with a little sketch (which doesn’t do justice to just how scrappy this is going to be) but I […]

Chiisai I, 2021 6″ x 8″This tiny abstract landscape is made of Japanese textiles. It is hand stitched with sashiko thread and embroidery floss in a style […]
A dear friend and admired artist and artisan recently gave me three bags of beautiful cotton fabric and her large hand quilting frame! I’m so very grateful for her kindness, so I’ve decided to make a small throw quilt for her, using some of her fabrics and to hand quilt it! I’m going to make a Carpenters Star for her, […]
