This is the result of my first Stash Bee Quilt Block exchange, a year-long quilting project that brings together 11 people from across North America. Each of us was assigned a month, during which we were Queen Bee — we gave instructions for a block, up to 16.5″ square, that each of the others would make for us. On the […]
Flying Geese Quilt
Japanese Wedding Quilt
Finally done! Front of quilt adapted from Simple Simon’s Peaches and Cream quilt pattern. I sized everything up to make 12″ blocks and added a strip of coins at the top to fix the aspect ratio and give me a nice Queen sized quilt for the happy couple. The bride picked this pattern and the basic fabric and colour way. […]
Rise Palimpsest 2021
I created this piece in early 2021 for the SAQA Atlantic exhibition on the theme “Commotion”. It was accepted into the exhibition on April 30. 2021, and is the first piece of mine to be accepted into an exhibition. Inspired by the events of 2020, and the history of protest movements, Rise Palimpsest is a rough, raw piece that explores […]
Coral Stars
Coral is my favourite colour and I wanted to play with some wonky stars, so I’m working on this new quilt! It’s scrappy, because I had just bought all kinds of coral fabrics and couldn’t wait to deploy them. I played with a little sketch (which doesn’t do justice to just how scrappy this is going to be) but I […]
Chiisai I, a tiny art quilt
I’m sending this to Studio Art Quilt Associates for their Spotlight auction at the 2021 virtual conference next month. It was a fun project to do and the tiniest thing I’ve ever quilted. Chiisai I, 2021 6″ x 8″This tiny abstract landscape is made of Japanese textiles. It is hand stitched with sashiko thread and embroidery floss in a style […]
Carpenters Star started
A dear friend and admired artist and artisan recently gave me three bags of beautiful cotton fabric and her large hand quilting frame! I’m so very grateful for her kindness, so I’ve decided to make a small throw quilt for her, using some of her fabrics and to hand quilt it! I’m going to make a Carpenters Star for her, […]
Old Muscat Souk quilt started
I love this cheerful and simple pattern by The Nomadic Quilter, and have started my own version. The fabric is largely drawn from Stacked Fabrics sold-old Wren fat quarter bundle. The background is Peaches and Cream by Colorworks for Northcott, a very pretty millennial pink.
Bauhaus I Quilt finished
It’s done! I quilted it with two thread colours: off white for the paler sections and dark blue for the darker and it worked out just fine.
Bauhaus quilt
I wanted to make a quilt for a friend and her husband selected “Bauhaus” out of the style inspiration options I gave him. I started with a sketch in prequilt.com and then made blocks to follow along with it, roughly. Being ale to compose on the design wall is a game-changer. I cannot overstate how amazing it is to look […]
Don’s Quilt
This is a lap quilt for a dear gentleman who’s in a long term care home right now. It’s got strong, masculine colours, quite a bit of Nova Scotia tartan and a bonus panel of hockey skates on the back (Don played hockey into his 70s!) I added hearts to each side to help him remember that he is loved. […]
