I made this for my dear friend, Esther! It’s Edyta Sitar’s free Stargazer pattern, which I made for myself in blue and white, but it looks super pretty in purples! The back is red and blue because those are Esther’s other favourite colours! It’s my 11th finished quilt of 2020, and my second last one for the Christmas season!
Purple Stargazer quilt
Don’s Quilt
This is a lap quilt for a dear gentleman who’s in a long term care home right now. It’s got strong, masculine colours, quite a bit of Nova Scotia tartan and a bonus panel of hockey skates on the back (Don played hockey into his 70s!) I added hearts to each side to help him remember that he is loved. […]
January Project
In between Christmas quilt finishes I’m continuing to work on January Project blocks. They’re so satisfying, partly because I’m using up scraps and partly because they’re so pretty!
January Project Quilt
I enjoyed working on the Diamonds on a String scrappy paper piecing quilt by Heather Kojan so much that I bought another of her scrappy patterns: January Project. It’s great to have something to work away on, and that I can totally make from my stash and scraps, and the 12″ blocks are nice and big. I chose to stay […]
Orange Peel Quilt finished!
Oh, I really love this one! It’s all done, and off to its new home in Toronto! Pieced and appliquéd by me, long armed by Lynn Jones of Lynn’s Quilting Studio and scrappy as hell.
Husky Quilt
I wanted to make a quilt with this panel for friends who have two huskies and live in the moderately far north of Ontario, but was really unsure how to make it into a quilt. I used a jelly roll of solids and then augmented it with 3 browns, black, white and grey and varied the width of those strips […]
Umigame collage art quilt
Made for a dear friend of mine, this small art quilt is based on collagist Susan Carlson’s pattern and technique. I used mostly Kaffe Fassett prints for the turtle itself because these prints lend themselves so well to this technique. After free motion quilting the piece, I used sashiko style quilting stitching in three floss colours to echo the form […]
Spiral Art Quilt collage
I love the work of Susan Carlson, a remarkable fabric collagist. I took her eworkshop on making a spiral collage, which is a wonderful introduction to her methods, with many very useful tips on choosing fabric, preparing the surface, adhering pieces, quilting the final work and binding an art quilt. I used scraps of reds and blues, trying to create […]
Thousand Oaks finished
Thousand Oaks is finished and it’s so beautiful! This is my first professionally quilted quilt — Lynn Jones of Lynn’s Quilting Studio long armed it in an oak leaf and acorn pattern and it’s perfect!
Stargazer Quilt
I dream of a stack of blue and white quilts 🙂 In pursuance of this I decided to make up this simple free pattern from Edyta Sitar, available at her website, Laundry Basket Quilts. i had bought a layer cake of her new fabric line, Perfect Union. Combined with some low volume fabrics I already had, and a few more […]
